시놉시스

카메라를 빤히 보고 있던 노동자들이 그동안 말하지 못했던 마음 속 이야기를 털어놓는다. 날은 아직 밝지 않았고 비가 추적추적 내리는 새벽 출근길, 노동조합이 만들어진 과정을 들으며 더 이상 자유롭게 드나들지 못하는 공장을 조심스럽게 바라본다.

 

2014년 4월 29일 생탁에서 일하던 노동자들이 법에 정해진 노동 3권 보장과 안전한 먹거리를 위한 환경개선을 요구하며 파업에 들어갔다. 지역 유지로 구성된 사장들의 압력 때문에 주요 언론은 그들의 투쟁을 외면했다. 노동자들은 자신의 투쟁을 기록하기 위해 카메라를 들고 거리에서 쉼 없이 자신들의 이야기를 외치지만, 법과 자본, 사람들의 무관심과 가족의 외면은 그들의 외침을 집어삼켜버린다. 그럼에도 불구하고 노동자들은 다시 거리로 나선다.

기획의도

우리 사회에서 노동자들이 침묵에서 깨어나 자신의 권리를 요구하는 행위는 감시해야 할 사람, 떼쟁이, 개만도 못한 인간으로 전락하는 과정이다. 자신의 목소리를 가지려고 안간힘을 쓰면 쓸수록 돈에 취한 세상은 그들을 철저하게 외면하고 고립시키면서 노동자의 외침을 소리 없는 아우성으로 만들어버린다. 노동자들이 침묵에서 깨어나는 순간 또 다른 침묵 속으로 속박 되어버리는 대한민국! 그럼에도 불구하고 생탁 노동자들을 비롯해 스스로 노동자라고 인식한 이들은 침묵의 굴레에서 벗어나기 위해 어제도 오늘도 굴뚝에, 철탑에, 크레인에, 전광판에 오른다.

 

생탁 노동자들은 2년 가까이 자신들의 투쟁을 기록하고 있다. 노동자들이 찍은 영상에는 외부자가 담을 수 없는 이야기들로 가득했고, 진실을 찾기 위한 그들의 뚝심이 오롯이 담겨있다. <깨어난 침묵>은 그들 스스로 담아낸 투쟁의 역사를 빌어 안전한 먹거리를 위한 노력과 자신의 권리를 찾기 위한 안간힘, 그리고 침묵에서 깨어난 노동자들을 다시 침묵 속으로 고립 시키는 현실을 이야기 한다.
