소소하게 농사를 지으며 호사스럽지는 않지만 평온한 일상이 이어지던 소성리에 사드가 배치되면서 마을이 전쟁터가 되었다. 긴장 속에 하루하루를 보내는 주민들은 마음 속 깊이 싸매고 있던 감각의 봉인이 해제됐다. 전쟁을 경험하고 이후 지독한 가난을 겪으며 빨갱이 프레임 속에서 평생을 숨죽인 채 살았던 소성리 주민들, 그들에게 ‘전쟁’과 ‘안보’는 ‘공포’의 다른 이름이다. ‘사드’는 소성리 주민들에게는 나라를 방어하는 것이 아니라 기억 속 봉인 돼 있던 전쟁 시절로 돌아가게 만드는 문이었다. 그 문은 전쟁 이후 가난과 불안을 재 감각하게 하는 무서운 통증의 시작이다. 한동안 꾸지 않았던 죽음에 대한 악몽을 다시 꾸게 만드는 고통이다.

 

영화는 평화로운 일상 속에 새겨진 개인의 삶과 전쟁의 상흔을 따라간다. 자신들의 이야기를 침묵하며 평생을 살아왔던 이들의 마음 속 풍경을 들여다보고, 평화를 바라는 그들의 의지를 담담히 담는다.

In Soseongri, people do not live the lives of luxuries, they farm for a living and experience their own form of normalcy. However, when THAAD was deployed in Soseongri, the village beccame a battlefield. As the residents of Soseong-ri tip-toe around their nerves, deeply sealed feelings surfaced and released. The people in Soseongri have \lived under the yoke of guilt framed by their experience with 'the Reds' after experiencing the Korean War and poverty. "War" and "security" are just different names for "fear" to them. "THAAD" is not something that will defend the country for them. It is the gate through which the days of war, sealed in their memories, returns.The gate opens to the horrifying reminder of poverty and anxiety. It is the pain that brings nightmares of death they thought they had left behind.

The movie, Soseongri, follows the normal peaceful lives of the townsfolk and the scars of war they bear. This movies takes a closer look into the minds of those who kept quiet and shows their will toward peace. 

시놉시스

 

쏟아질 것 같던 별이 해가 뜨며 사라지고, 등 굽은 의선이 유모차에 의지해 마당을 느린 걸음으로 돈다. 순분은 깨를 심고, 밭에 난 풀을 뽑고, 감자를 캐며 하루 종일 땀을 흘린다. 금연과 상희는 작은 수풀이 만들어낸 그늘에 앉아 중참을 먹으며 까르르 이야기를 나눈다. 회관에서는 여럿이 둘러앉아 밥을 먹고, 화투를 치고, 새근새근 낮잠을 청한다. 어제와 다르지 않은 소성리의 하루가 그렇게 흘러간다.

세 살배기 아들을 마음에 묻은 금연, 잃어버렸던 이름을 찾기 위해 가부장제와 싸웠던 순분, 지독히 가난했음에도 나눔을 즐겼던 의선의 희로애락이 산과 숲으로 삼연한 소성리에 고스란히 배어있다. 6.25 전쟁 당시 인민군이 빵을 팔았던 마을회관과 한국군이 주민들을 학살했던 마을 입구, 그 시체를 파묻었던 계곡은 우리나라 근현대사의 상흔이다. 마을 사람들은 질곡의 역사와 고단한 삶을 부둥켜안고 서로의 일상을 지탱하며 살았다.

2017년 4월 26일, 소성리는 경찰의 군홧발과 미군의 비웃음으로 사드가 배치되며 평화로웠던 일상이 무너졌다. 전쟁을 막겠다고 들어온 사드는 소성리를 전쟁터로 만들어버렸다. 소성리 주민들은 자신의 일상을 지키기 위해 오늘도 아스팔트 도로 위에 눕는다.

Vibrant stars disappears into the night as the sun rises and Ui-seon with her hunched back depends on her stroller to walk around the yard slowly. Sun-bun plants sesame, pulls out grass in her field, and digs out potatoes all day, sweating. Geum-yeon and Sang-hui have a conversation while eating snacks, sitting under the shade of stubby bushes. Several people eat in a circle, play card games, and take a nap in the village hall. This day in Soseongri goes on just like yesterday did.

Soseongri is made up of the all spectrum of emotions both good and bad from the people who lives here - Geum-yeon who lost her 3 year old baby boy; Sun-bun who has fought against the patriarchy to reclaim her lost name and identity; Ui-seon who find joy in sharing even if herself lives in extreme poverty. The village hall where the North Korean People's Army used to sell bread, the entrance of the village where the Korean armed forces massacred people, and the valley where the dead are buried are all bearing scars of Korea’s modern history. The people in Soseongri have embraced the history of fetters and hard-knocked lives, and support each other. On April 26, 2017, THAAD was deployed in Soseongri, accompanied by the military boots of the Korean police and the sneers of American soldiers, destroying the peaceful daily lives of those who live here. THAAD, meant to stop wars, turns Soseongri into a battlefield. The people in Soseongri lie down on the asphalt road again to protect their lives.
